Green Map
The Knowle West Green Map was launched in December 2006 – and provides a visual picture of places of environmental, social and cultural interest within the community.
Green Mapping comes originally from New York City and was first started in 1992: www.greenmap.org. The idea is for the online map to act as a interactive guide for everyone to enjoy all the green spaces, important places and environmental projects on their doorstep.
Knowle West Media Centre and GreenBristol have been working with local residents to develop the map, with digital workshops showing them how to add pictures, sound and film.
The map is also part of an international project – the 4 B’s Hive which is a collaboration between Bristol and three other European river cities – Bistrita in Romania and the German and Hungarian capitals Berlin and Budapest. The project aims to encourage sustainable living and encourage adult learners from across the continent to share skills and learn about other cultures.
A digital version will also be put on the website that people can access, update and edit it themselves.
